One of the wonderful ways that the Buffalo AKG gets involved in the community is through their Art Truck. This truck goes around to different neighborhoods and town events to bring art to individuals and families. They provide activities and all the supplies necessary to foster creativity in people of all ages.
This program has been rolling (literally) for many years, but with the museum’s re-brand the truck required a new wrap.
The goal of the new wrap was not only to re-brand but also to create a visually welcoming and fun look and feel for the truck. The only challenge was that the new brand primarily uses black and white, only bringing in responsive color occasionally. Obviously black and white doesn’t say “this is a fun and happy place to make art”, and there was a lot of potential for the truck’s identity to be mistaken as a delivery or art transport truck.

The design team and I started with pencil sketches, getting every possible idea down as quickly as possible. These were then scanned, and the favorites were converted to digital sketches. After many rounds of design and revision, we landed on a design that felt fun and engaging while clearly communicating the purpose of the truck.
I then sent vectorized files to the production artists who adapted it to their wrap stencils and fabricated it in vinyl on the truck.

It’s been so fun to see it out and about in the community and bringing the joy of art to the public. I love how it furthers the mission of the museum, actively showing the community that art is for everyone.
